An advertising and design agency is celebrating its 10-year anniversary with a new space.

Rob Jackson, founder of Extra Credit Projects, said his Grand Rapids-based agency outgrew its former space on the west side, at 560 5th St. NW, and has found a new home on the north side, at at 1250 Taylor Ave NE, to accommodate its growth.

Jackson said moving from the city’s west side to its north side was a strategic decision and based on what it expects will occur in the near future with the area.

“Our move was strategic to our long-term investment in Grand Rapids,” Jackson said. “Looking ahead, as downtown expands, we believe the north Monroe revival will merge with the Creston area redevelopment, and we will be a creative force right in the middle of it.”

"Modern" space

Extra Credit Projects’ new office is described as “unique and modern.”

The location offers employees and clients easier access to U.S. 131, I-196 and downtown, with the added bonus of employee parking.

The space also includes a central kitchen and fireplace, shower, lockers, bike storage, a workshop and a garage space for its employees’ extra-large projects.

The studio is especially accommodating for half of the staff, who are living on the north side and can now walk or bike to work.

Industrial history

Extra Credit Projects’ new home has a rich industrial history, having once been the location of a train coal depot.

In more recent years, it has housed a variety of service-oriented businesses.

The building has retained its industrial feel, and Jackson said, “the industrial location reminds employees and clients of the mentality that drives the work.”

“We strive to make our space more of a creative campus than an office,” Jackson said.

Recognized agency

In its first decade, Extra Credit Projects has become an internationally recognized agency.

It has won regional, national and international awards.

Jackson said the agency’s goal is to attract national clientele to Grand Rapids and its creative community.
